Appropriate clothing is also essential for mountain biking. Your clothes should be lightweight and comfortable for the weather, but also strong and durable. Don’t forget the shoes, your shoes need to be comfortable but also practical for the terrain.
After all, you may be spending several hours a week (or day!) on the bike, and you’ll want to be as comfortable as possible. You’ll want to consider the standover height, or inseam clearance; leg and foot position; and the rider compartment, or the distance between the saddle and handlebar.
So if you are just starting to ride bikes for the first time, please don't just jump on the bike a go for a 20 mile ride as it may do you more harm than good. One thing that is recommended is to do short rides to start with, maybe only a couple of miles which will take no time at all on a bike to get your fitness training up to scratch before hitting the bike ride.
