So if you are just starting to ride bikes for the first time, please don't just jump on the bike a go for a 20 mile ride as it may do you more harm than good. One thing that is recommended is to do short rides to start with, maybe only a couple of miles which will take no time at all on a bike to get your fitness training up to scratch before hitting the bike ride.
Mountain biking, as a sport, has been around since the 1970's. The sport originated when bikers refitted their traditional bikes with stronger brakes and thicker, more durable tires. Groups of riders from around the country would gather and race down mountains or hills on these refitted bikes. Hence, the beginning of mountain biking as we know it today.
This type of biking involves hopping and jumping bikes over various obstacles. It has the versatility to be done either off road or in urban areas. The rider must have a very good sense of balance and skill. This is very similar to skateboarding where style, originality and techniques count.
